I am this that it’s in front of you 

Which you can’t see

If I were to retell my life in the present or present continuous no one would be interested 

My life in the past and past perfect is what counts and it is then when it is a story. Funny how the word story really comes from the word history.

As if I only have history and not the present or future.

I am not who I was. That person does not exist anymore. I am who I am now, who I become or became. I am a new me who has nothing to do with me in the past ; because I am different than I was. And we say “people don’t change”.
